Our surgeons were the first in the state to perform this technique, and our facility is among the top few centers in the country to pioneer this new technology. Our specialists have presented and published their results at a number of scientific meetings across the country.
This new technique, also known as Laparoendoscopic Single Site Surgery, or Single port Access, is the latest alternative to traditional laparoscopic methods. Instead of traditional laparoscopy, which is performed through four to six one-inch incisions spread out over the abdomen, SILS procedures can be done through a single one-inch incision through the belly button. This often results in a completely scar-less procedure.
Other benefits include less pain, a decreased risk of infection, and a shorter recovery period. SILS can be used for gallbladder removal, hernia treatment, and colon resection, as well as various bariatric procedures such as lap banding.
